Glenmorangie is a whiskey distillery in Tain in the Northern Highlands of Scotland and probably one of the most famous whiskey distilleries. The malt used in the production is unpeated so that no smoke aromas detract from the mild fruity character of the Glenmorangie whiskey. The distillery uses Mainly American oak barrels. First, the raw spirit is filled in (mostly first fill) bourbon barrels for 10 years. Then the whiskey is decanted into bourbon barrels, sherry barrels, port pipes or Sauternes barrels for the finish. Glenmorangie achieves a great variability in the whiskey range.

The whiskey is refined through a particularly long maturation process in the best selected ex-bourbon barrels. After about 15 years, 30 percent of the whiskey is transferred to Oloroso sherry barrels from Spain. This gives the Glenmorangie a fruity and nutty aroma.

Scents of resinous notes rise into the nose. Aromas of nuts, a sweetness of caramel, creamy soft vanilla and citrus notes like oranges and lemons also join in. A slight honey sweetness and notes of ripe dates can also be perceived. On the palate you can perceive notes of grapefruit and orange. Nuances of honey, malt and light floral aromas are also very present. The finish is smoky, accompanied by a slight sweetness reminiscent of dried fruit.
